Member Adam Ament had played drums in Fresno bands such as Checkmate and Spider Besider (alongside of Brian Dixon, who years later would be one of the founding members of The Aggrolites). Tom Knox did the song writing and played lead guitar, while the others worked on lyrics and backing vocals. The Moloko Men have released several studio recordings on different labels over the years. Taking a note of their friends The Templars in NYC, The Moloko Men bought some recording gear of their own and recorded a split EP with Fresno’s Violent Drunks.

Pretty soon, the band’s reputation preceded them. Neighbors would call them “The Militia,” which the band turned into the phrase “Moloko Militia,” especially due to the band being avid gun owners. The band and friends would meet up on weekends for shooting and drinking just a few miles from their rehearsal space on the outskirts of town.

Can’t expect anything less from a band named after “a bit of the old ultra-violence.”
