Guitarist/vocalist
Kenny Mount, bassist Kelly Ratliff, and drummer
Eric “Guppy” Bonilla have the time of their
lives doing what they do best…playing music in
The Filthies. Meet The Filthies, 3 guys from
Bakersfield that drink a shit load of beer and
consistently pack out every venue they play.
After 5+ years of playing their brand of rural
punk rock music, The Filthies signed to
Fallen-Angel-Records in 2007 after recording
their full-length CD entitled “Your Turn” at
Westbeach Recorders in Hollywood, CA. All of the
elements on this recording are nothing short of
awesome, think along the lines of your favorite
Ramones riff; simple yet catchy. “Your Turn”
is packed with the kind of songs that will be
stuck in you head (and CD player) for a very
long time. The drums are tight and punchy, the
guitars and bass lines are extremely rocking and
don’t forget the killer vocals. Kenny sounds
like a cross between Joe Strummer and Billy Joe
from Green Day and most of the vocals were
amazingly done in just one take. He belts out
the vocals with great conviction and his lyrics
come from the heart. Yes, even the songs about
embalming dead bodies and old friends fading
away. You see, when Kenny is not playing in The
Filthies he is a real life mortician.
The
Filthies are one of those few bands that have
great stage presence and pour their hearts into
each and every live performance. These guys have
sold more CD-R’s that one can possibly
imagine. The band confessed how they would sit
together for hours and burn spindle after
spindle of CD-R’s and sell them at their shows
for $8 a pop with no artwork. After years of
touring up and down the west coast without a
full-length album to sell, The Filthies decided
it was time to get serious. The band took some
time away from the road and wrote their debut
album “Your Turn”.
Before
the album was even released press came spilling
in on just the promotional copies that had been
sent out. “I think I’ve spun this song 50
times in the past week” Paperback Writer-
January 2007, “Can you say album of the
fucking year” Big Wheel Magazine- January
2007, and last but not least “The Filthies
album “Your Turn” is their breakout
masterpiece”. Do yourself a favor and add The
Filthies “Your Turn” to your CD collection.
It’s guaranteed to be a piece great punk rock
history for many years to come.
